Do I need to buy dance shoes?

Is it essential to have dance shoes when you’re learning to dance?

Many people start to learn o dance without thinking about dance shoes. This is fine as the critical thing when you are starting to learn to dance is to get the steps mastered, get the feel of the music and understand how to dance with your partner. However, there are many benefits of wearing dance shoes to a dance class.

Dance shoes have a suede sole which allows traction with the floor, but also allows the foot to move without sticking. A standard sol e is often rubber and can adhere to the dance floor or if leather can be too slippery.

You may wonder where to buy your dance shoes from. There are some well-known dance shoe companies, the most famous being :

International Dance Shoes: https://www.internationaldanceshoes.com

Supadance: https://www.supadance.com

Freed of London: (http://www.freedoflondon.com

How much are my shoes going to cost?

Well, they can cost anything from £50 to £150 depending on the style and quality of the shoe. A medium range shoe would cost between £50 and £70. My recommendation would be a shoe from the International Dance Shoes ‘Dancesport Range’ they are a quality shoe at a reasonable price.

Many questions I get asked by the ladies relate to heel height. This is entirely dependent on what type of day shoes a lady wears if a lady walks about in a pair of 3-inch heels all day long it’s not going to be a problem to have 3-inch heel when she dances. If a lady wears flat shoes all day and then tries to dance in 3-inch heels, it could be disastrous.

Most men would wear a black calf leather shoe with a 1-inch heel. The men have much less choice than the ladies, but that is reflected in the price as the men’s shoes tend to be quite a bit less expensive.

You may not think essential to buy dance shoes but like any other sport or past times the correct equipment always pays dividends, so consider if its time to invest a little to make your evening dancing a little more comfortable.

Happy Dancing!
